The city of Goiania is located in the central west of Brazil and is the capital of the state of Goias.
Founded on October 24th 1933, Goiania is another Brazilian planned city much like Brasilia. Modern construction and skyscrapers dominate the skyline while an affluent air of industrial and economic success permeates through the air.
The city is easy to navigate, designed in the shape of a wheel with spokes. Goiania winds from the centre outwards with the residential areas located in the low buildings on the rim of the city and the commercial buildings and offices located in the central hub. The city was originally designed by Artilio Correia Lima and the influence of Art Deco on his work is evident throughout the city.
Goiania is not all concrete and buildings, more than 30% of the city is made up of trees and park land and it is not uncommon to find streets lined with tropical fruit trees ripe for the picking. Many of the parks offer wonderful facilities and relaxing environments such as Parque Vaca Brava with its lake and morning joggers.
The climate in Goiania is hot, muggy and humid and it very rarely gets cold at any time of the year.
The capital city of Brasilia is just a short two and a half hour bus ride away.
